I have been trying to learn how to draw for a long time. I use a variety of resources, and absolutely love these books by Hinkler Books! I would say one needs to have three things- patience, and some basic drawing skills, and the willingness to practice, practice, practice.These Hinkler Books are a delight to look at, laid out wonderfully, and the subject matter is varied and somewhat cartoonish/whimsical!

This book was purchased by a 10 year old with her own money. But I use it too and enjoy it very much.
It's basically 8 drawing books in one.
The categories are
Glitz and Glamour fashion stars, pop stars, models, and how to draw people, and couples.
Fairy Tales castles, Beauty & Beast, characters etc, gowns, armor, etc.
Cute Critters puppies, kittens, tiger cubs, rabbits, panda bears, lambs, koala, etc.
Wedding Day people with flowers, brides, groom, flower girl, etc.
Birds some sitting, some flying, doves, toucan, swan, flamingo, etc
Dance shows movement of people, jumping, tango, tap, ballet, etc.
Flowers sunflowers, lily, blossoms, orchid, and the easiest one is the tulip.
Pony Club ponies, riders, scenes of brushing and feeding and riding the horses.
My child's favorite part is that on every single page has an interesting fact at the bottom, about what you're drawing. For instance "The Flower Girl often wears a miniature version of the wedding gown". Or "In ancient Mesopotamia, 5,000 years ago, women crushed up semi-precious stones to make cosmetics".
Every single lesson is on two facing pages, and involves only 4 steps. It also has tips on how to shade scenes to add depth, and contains many drawing tips.
The book is large format, easy to read without squinting, (!!) and easy for a non artists,(like us) or a budding talent to learn to draw.
My daughter loves this book!
My 14 yr old daughter really spends a lot of time drawing with this book's guidelines. It provides hours of entertainment.
Has cute pictures in it of things I'd never thought of trying to learn to draw!nd fun to learn and fun to learn.
